Kentucky jumps, Texas A&M surges in Power 10 after crazy weekend in women's volleyball

Kentucky, Texas A&M make huge jumps in new Power 10 rankings

Okay the Week 10 women's volleyball Power 10 rankings are here after some crazy shakeups. I stared at this for a long time and still don't feel 100 percent on it.

You can justify this a lot of different ways, as things are starting to get really messy with head-to-head matchups vs. overall resumes.

But let's get into my Power 10.

1. Nebraska (Prev. 1)

Nebraska at No.1 is the one thing we can't argue about after a crazy weekend in women's volleyball. The Huskers swept Wisconsin and Oregon to remain undefeated on the season and now stand as the sole unbeaten team. They face Illinois and Minnesota this week.

2. Kentucky (Prev. 4)

Now, I think that Kentucky is the No. 2 team in the country this week. I know Pitt has the head-to-head win, but using the eye test, I think the Wildcats deserve it, especially coming off a sweep on the road over then No. 2 Texas. The outside duo of Brooklyn DeLeye and Eva Hudson is just too good: 20 from Hudson, 18 from DeLeye, and both hit over .400. On top of that, the defense is unreal, and the Wildcats' serve was on point. Kentucky looks dominant right now.

3. Texas (Prev. 2)

I think you can go either way here with Pitt and Texas. I flip-flopped them about 10 times, but ended up keeping Texas at No. 3 since it was just their first two losses of the season. Both defeats were top 10 losses, and you have to try and ignore recency bias and look at overall resume the best you can. This team still has an unreal amount of ranked wins this year.

4. Pitt (Prev. 3)

Olivia Babcock plays for Pittsburgh

Pitt is at No. 4, though they could be justified at No. 3. Olivia Babcock did it once again, breaking her own program record and this time posted 45 kills….. that's 45 in a win over UNC in five sets while hitting .357 as well. This kind of production, I don't care how many times you are set, is unbelievable. Everyone in the gym knows it's going to her, and it does not matter.

5. Texas A&M (Prev. 10)

At No. 5, I moved Texas A&M all the way up from No. 10 last week. When looking at their resume, and now adding two more ranked wins and a top-5 win, I think they are a top-5 team in the country. Kyndal Stowers had 22 kills in the win over Texas, and really stepped up in the rivalry victory.

6. Louisville (Prev. 7)

I have Louisville at No. 6. The Cardinals put up back-to-back wins over a tough Notre Dame team in a home-and-home series. Chloe Chicoine recorded her 10th straight match with double digit kills in the win.

Louisville volleyball defeats Notre Dame

Louisville and Stanford are still the two most difficult teams for me to place in the Power 10 because Louisville has the head-to-head over Stanford. Stanford has only 3 losses, but neither have a ton of ranked wins. Using the eye test, though, you know they are both top-10 teams.

7. Stanford (Prev. 8)

So that means I have Stanford moving up a spot at No. 7 this week. The Cardinal posted road wins over NC State and Wake Forest last week and will host UNC this Friday.

8. SMU (Prev. 5)

SMU and ASU drop to No. 8 and No. 9 with losses this past week. SMU dropped a match in five to UNC, which Pitt and Louisville beat as of recent. It was a five-setter, though, so I debated on keeping them a little higher.

9. Arizona State (Prev. 6)

The drop feels large for ASU after they were No. 6 last week, but they did lose to an unranked team in Iowa State. They still only have three losses on the season, but with such small margins to differentiate between the top 10, an unranked loss is a big mover.

10. Purdue (Prev. 9)

Finally, I have Purdue at No. 10 to round out this week's list. The Boilermakers scraped out two five-set wins over Michigan and Michigan State to hold on to their spot in the Power 10. They have Penn State this Friday.
